If the doctor has told you to cut your intake of carbohydrates, there are several ways you can do so and still get the vitamins and nutrients that you need. All it takes is a few simple adjustments in your diet. Here are some ways to get the most from low carb nutrition and live a healthier life.

One of the first things you need to do is think green. Essentially, the greener the vegetables, the lower the carb content.  Include a lot of spinach, turnips, kale, mustard greens, and collards in your diet. You will find that they will help you develop some new ways to enjoy old favorites, and will be a welcome change from the foods that contain more starch and carbohydrates, such as corn and potatoes. Try steaming the greens along with enjoying them tossed in a light oil and vinegar dressing for a different take. When you want to cook them, adding a little peanut oil instead of a carb loaded meat seasoning will still provide a very desirable accent to the taste.

Next, check out soy substitutes to compliment your intake of lean red meats. Broiled hamburger patties will contain plenty of nutrients and will have a relatively low amount of carbs. However, they also contain a fair amount of cholesterol. To make sure you do not trade one health ailment for another, try soy-based burgers for something a little different. With so many different offerings available today, you are sure to find one or two that will work very well for you.

Last, don't think that all good things like bean dip are behind you. Instead of high carb dips, try making your own hummus with the a basic recipe of garbanzo beans and lemon juice. From there, you can add any spices you like to give the recipe a little bite. The garbanzo beans are also a great source of protein, which is a very good thing.

Low carb nutrition does not have to be tasteless and boring. With a little effort, you can find plenty of recipes that will be visually appealing, very flavorful, and will provide all the good things that you need.
